Prescriptions

Non-urgent advice: Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest and preferred ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)

You may also:

  • fill out a repeat prescriptions form and bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 6.30pm. There may be a delay in using this method.

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.

Please note that pharmacies are no longer allowed to order prescriptions on a patient’s behalf.

Requesting items too frequently may cause a delay in your request being dealt with. If there is a special reason such as going away on holiday, just out of hospital etc. please write this on your repeat slip.

Non-urgent advice: Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription 3 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the NHS app or NHS website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Once you nominate a pharmacy:

  • you will no longer need to collect paper prescriptions from your GP surgery
  • your nominated pharmacy will receive your prescriptions until you change or remove your nominated pharmacy
  • any outstanding prescriptions you have ordered may still arrive at your current nominated pharmacy.
  • you can track your prescription through the NHS app.

Prescriptions for anxiety prior to flying or procedures.

We are often asked to prescribe benzodiazepines for fear of flying, the most common request is for a medication called Diazepam.

There are several good reasons why prescribing benzodiazepines for these purposes are not deemed safe and is no longer recommended. We at GPS, have taken the decision to put our patients’ safety first and will no longer issue prescriptions for this.  Please see our Latest News for more in depth information

Patient UK has links to access Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is more effective, especially when combined with education. There is also guidance from airlines on the management of flight related anxiety.

This policy applies to requests for medication prior to a procedure. If the request has been made by a secondary care provider, please get in touch with them to discuss further. If the procedure or scan has been requested by a clinician at GPS, you may request to discuss this with them, in which case please get in touch for an appointment.
